Jeffrey Richards was appointed the Honorary Consul of France in 2007 for the state of Colorado.
Colorado has a vibrant French-American community and is home to a variety of important cultural, arts and business groups. Mr. Richards has been an active contributor to this community. He is a past president of the Alliance Francaise de Denver where he is a current member of the Board of Directors. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the French-American Chamber of Commerce, Rocky Mountain Chapter in Denver. In addition, he is a member and actor with the Colorado French theater group – L’Alliance & Co. He is fluent in English and French.
A 1980 graduate of the University of Colorado, Mr. Richards received a B.A. cum laude in History, where he wrote an honors thesis on the subject of French diplomace under Napoleon III. Mr. Richards did post-graduate studies at the Alliance Francaise de Paris and Universite de Paris, Sorbonne. He received his law degree from The Ohio State University of Law. During law school he was a White House intern in the Office of the United States Trade Representative in Washington, D.C., where he worked on matters concerning European affairs.
Mr. Richards previously worked in Paris, France for the international clothier Le Monde des Enfants, and at the University Rene Descartes as a translator. He also studied culinary arts at the Ecole de Cuisine La Varenne in Paris. He has lived in France, Germany, Switzerland and Greece.
Mr. Richards is currently a partner of the law firm Anstine, Hill, Richards, and Simpson, located in Denver, where he specializes in commerica buisness law, insurance, and litigation, representing multinational corporations and Colorado businesses in the United States and around the globe.
Married to Carolyn K. Richards, an affiliate professor of video and media production at Metropolitan State College in Denver, the Richards have two daugthers, Laetitia and Nathalie.
