Jeffrey Richards was appointed the Honorary Consul of France for the state of Colorado in 2007.
He is a past Dean of the Colorado Consular Corps.
A 1980 graduate of the University of Colorado, Mr. Richards received a B.A. cum laude in History, where he wrote an honors thesis on the subject of French diplomacy under Napoleon III during the Crimean War. Mr. Richards did post-graduate studies at the Alliance Française de Paris and Université de Paris, Sorbonne. He received his juris doctor law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law. During law school he was an Executive Office/ White House intern in the Office of the United States Trade Representative in Washington, D.C., where he worked on matters concerning European affairs and Congressional affairs.
Mr. Richards previously worked in Paris, France for the international clothier Le Monde des Enfants. He was employed at the Paris Descartes Université, Paris V as a French/English translator. He also studied culinary arts at the École de Cuisine La Varenne in Paris. He has lived in France, Germany, Switzerland and Greece. Mr. Richards is fluent in English and French.
Mr. Richards is currently the principal attorney at the Richards Law Firm, located in Denver, where he specializes in commercial business law, insurance, and litigation, representing multinational corporations and Colorado businesses in the United States and around the globe.
Mr. Richards has been an active and longstanding contributor to the Colorado French community. He is a past president of the Alliance Française de Denver where he is a current advisor to the Board of Directors. He is a member and actor with the Colorado French theater group – L ’Alliance & Co. He is a former non-singing performer for Opera Colorado.
Mr. Richards is married to Carolyn Richards a retired media executive and former Metropolitan State University professor and they have two daughters, Nathalie and Laetitia.
