James M. Lyons is a partner at Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP. He is the senior trial lawyer in the firm focusing on complex business litigation and arbitration of all types, including corporate, securities, and insurance law. He has extensive government relations and international trade and diplomatic experience.

Mr. Lyons is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). He has been an adjunct professor at the University of Denver College of Law and Graduate School of International Studies (International Conflict Resolution). He is a member of the American Arbitration Association and the International Centre for Dispute Resolution’s Roster of Neutrals, Panel of Arbitrators, and Panel of Mediators. He served as President of the Board of the Faculty of Federal Advocates of the United States District Court, and as Chair of the Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel for the United States District Court in Colorado.

Mr. Lyons has been listed in every edition of Best Lawyers and Chambers USA. He is a Colorado Super Lawyer, and for an unprecedented four years running, was the Top Vote Getter for all lawyers in Colorado. In 2010, he was named Best Arbitrator by Law Week Colorado.

In 1997, Mr. Lyons succeeded Sen. George Mitchell as Special Advisor to the President of the United States and Secretary of State for Economic Initiatives in Northern Ireland and the border counties of the Republic of Ireland. He served in this position until 2001. He was responsible for economic initiatives in support of the peace process, including Aspire Micro Loans for Business, the first micro-enterprise loan fund in western Europe. He also served until 2001 as the United States Observer to the International Fund for Ireland (“IFI”), a diplomatic post to which he was appointed by President Clinton in 1993.

Mr. Lyons is the recipient of the prestigious Learned Hand National Award of the American Jewish Committee, the St Thomas More award from the Colorado Catholic Lawyers Guild and the inaugural Archbishop Charles J. Chaput Leadership Award. In 2002, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of laws by the University of Ulster” in recognition of his service to the people of Northern Ireland and the cause of peace.”
