Steven Katich serves as Honorary Consul in Colorado for the Republic of Serbia. He has done so since 2003.

Katich, an attorney by trade, traces his family roots to Zitiste, located in the Central Banat province of Vojvodina in Serbia. His interest in his homeland was born during the region’s civil wars of the 1990’s. He traveled to Serbia as a part of the first business delegation to the country after former President Milosevic was defeated by Vojislav Kostunica. Later, he was selected by Freedom House, a Washington, D.C.-based NGO, to spend one month working with the communications staff of the President in Belgrade.

In 1984, Katich was appointed by former Mayor Federico Pena to serve as executive director of the Denver Baseball Commission. In that role, he spearheaded the city’s successful effort to bring Major League Baseball to the community. He then spent 13 years as a partner at GBSM, a Denver-based communications consulting firm. There, he headed the firm’s public affairs group. He left GBSM to serve as President of the Denver Public Schools Foundation. For nearly five years, he has served a Director of Business Development and Government Relations for one of the nation’s premier general contractors, JE Dunn Construction.

Katich serves on the Boards of the Downtown Denver Partnership as well as the Colorado Consular Corps. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Denver and then attended the George Washington School of Law in Washington, D.C. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Katich is married to Ellen Jaskol, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph for the Rocky Mountain News. Since the closure of the News, she is the owner of Ellen Jaskol Photography in Denver (www.ellenjaskol.com). Katich has two daughters, Alexandra and Helen. Alexandra is a 2009 graduate of Brown University who spent three years as an account executive for Ketchum Public Relations in New York City. She then completed law school at New York’s Cardozo Law and is currently practicing in Denver, Colorado. Helen is a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder. While at CU, she was a co-founder of Boulder Food Rescue and after graduation worked for a year on an organic farm in Western Colorado. Helen spent a year in Seattle as a Montessori pre-school teacher, returning to Colorado in 2015 where she currently serves as the Self Sufficiency Coordinator for Metro Caring, a hunger prevention organization based in Denver.
